What Actually Happens During an Air Duct Cleaning

We remove the dust, dander and debris circulating through your home every time the HVAC runs — and we show you the photos to prove it.
If you’ve never had it done, the process is less disruptive than most people expect — and more thorough than the version sold at coupon prices. Here’s what a proper appointment looks like.

Before we arrive

You get a call before the technician sets off, along with a photo of who’s coming so you know who’s at your door. Someone over 18 should be home to give access and to see the walkthrough at the end — that walkthrough is genuinely the most useful part of the visit.

Step 1 — Inspection

We assess the system before anything else — and where we need to see inside a run, a camera goes in. You see what we find, and you get a firm price for the whole job. No obligation. If your ducts don’t need cleaning, this is the point where we tell you.

Step 2 — Protecting the house

Shoe covers go on before any equipment comes through the door, and wherever the work calls for it we lay drop cloths or 6-mil plastic sheeting to protect floors and furniture. Our reviews mention the clean-up more than almost anything else, and that’s deliberate.

Step 3 — Negative pressure

The vacuum connects to your main trunk line and puts the entire system under negative pressure. This is the part that determines whether the job is clean or messy: everything we dislodge travels into the machine rather than into your living room.

Step 4 — Agitate and extract

Every supply and return is opened. Covers come off and get washed. Rotating brushes and compressed air work through the full length of each run while the vacuum pulls. Then the main trunk lines, the plenum, and the blower compartment — cleaning the branches and skipping the equipment is half a job, which is why we also offer blower and coil cleaning.

Step 5 — Verify and show you

A final check, optional antimicrobial treatment, then the before-and-after photos. You see your own ductwork, not a stock photo of someone else’s.

The practical questions

What you should have at the end

Photographs of your own system before and after, a plain-English account of what we found, and a recommendation for when to do it again — based on what we actually saw, not a default interval. If a company can’t give you the first of those, ask why.

What NADCA actually says

What we do that cheap jobs skip

Three things, consistently. Every vent cover comes off and gets washed rather than vacuumed through the grille. The main trunk lines and plenum get cleaned, not just the branches. And the blower compartment gets opened — because a spotless duct feeding a caked blower wheel is half a job. That last one is where most of the airflow improvement actually comes from.

After we leave

Change your filter. You’ve just removed a large amount of material from the system, and a fresh filter keeps the newly-clean ductwork clean. We’ll also tell you what MERV rating suits your equipment — higher isn’t automatically better, and a filter your system can’t pull air through creates its own problems.

Then give it a few days. People often expect an instant transformation; what actually happens is that the dust which used to reappear within two days starts taking a couple of weeks.

What if something isn't right?

Call us and say so. We’d far rather come back and fix something than have you write about it. That’s not a policy on a page — it’s the practical reality of being a small company in a metro area where reviews are the whole business.

Getting a maintenance interval that's real

At the end we recommend when to do it again, based on what we actually found in your system rather than a default. Pets, occupancy, filter habits, system count and whether you’ve renovated all move that number. See how often ducts really need cleaning for the detail.
